For many years the thinking of conservative Christians has been a house divided against itself, orthodox in some respects but rationalistic in others….This, however, is a sad mistake, for rationalism turns true religion upside down. It makes our faith in God and in His Word depend on our confidence in ourselves and in our reasoning powers….But if we are true believers, our thinking is just the opposite. Our confidence in ourselves and in our reasoning powers depends on our faith in God, our Creator and Redeemer, and in His revelation of Himself in the infallibly inspired and providentially preserved Scriptures.
